Adding A Blog Contest

  • by Rachel
  • December 1st, 2008

You may have noticed that last night I installed a new widget.

At the bottom of my posts, there is now a little box with a personalized message from me.  The widget is called the “What would Seth Godin Do” widget.  It’s very user-friendly; even I figured it out in minutes!

The reason that I chose this widget was to promote my December, and future, contests.  I’m going to be giving away cash and prizes in hopes to spike my comment numbers, return visitors, and increase traffic.  I’ve really got a good base of return commentators and frequent commentators; I’d like to reward those who comment on my site and also those who link to AverageGal on their blog.

My plan is to run a contest each month.  I’ll be tweaking the details and prizes each month, so make sure to come back to check out each month’s contest details.  Click Here to find out the December contest details.

Have you ever run a contest on your blog?  What was your experience?  Any advice that you’d like to give those who are thinking about running a contest? Thanks for your input!

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Hi Rachel,

I like that plugin, might just get it myself. Do you have to use it in every post? If you have nothing to say does it show?

I think the contest is a great idea. If you are looking for input - I do, (on occasion) like to actually be creative with the entry rather than have the winner be just a random number draw. doesn’t have to be like that every time but once in a while…

I’ll be back!

Hi Rachel,

Great idea. I’ve been thinking a contest is a great idea. Could be a rough go with the crowd we’re hanging out with these days, don’t you think? :-)

I can definitely vouch for the blog contest idea. I’m going to be running a different contest every month of 2009 to help promote, drive traffic, and increase readership and community of my blog. Everyone can use some cold hard cash!!! I actually referenced your writeup in a little post I did myself!! Keep ‘em coming! :)
