One of the biggest challenges to launching a new blog is driving traffic to your site.  I always like to tell people that creating a new blog is like building a large billboard with your message, but no one can see it because it’s stuck in your basement!  One of the quickest and easiest ways to put viewers in front of your blogs content is by using StumbleUpon and Digg.  These two sources can provide a nice stream of visitors, if one of your readers recommends your article; getting a reader to take the time to submit your article is the key.  To help with this process I created a group on Facebook called Stumble it or Digg It Forward.

The whole premise of this group is to offer like-minded blog owners a common place to come together and review each others’ articles; especially articles that they find interesting and believe Stumble and Digg readers will also enjoy.  The concept is really quite simple.  Just go to Facebook (I highly suggest you create an account if you don’t have one) and search for the group by name or click on this link to join: Stumble It or Digg It Foward. If you have an article that you’d like read and reviewed, just post it to the wall.  One of the other group members will read the article and give it a thumbs up or Digg it if they feel it fits their interests and will add value to StumbleUpon or Digg.  Keep in mind that there’s no obligation for you to return the favor, however I’m sure there will be an article or two you might find interesting!  It’s a pretty simple and fun concept.

Don’t be afraid to use the group discussion board to talk about off-topic items that can help other bloggers with tips to help grow their blogs.  My hope is that this will create a fun, quick, and easy place for us to gather and network!  See you soon at the group; I look forward to reading your articles!

Hi Rachel,

Yeah stumbling and digging will do the job.

A word of caution, though. If stumble believes that the group is thumbing things up due to reciprocity, they consider that a violation of TOS and could ban the members.

It’s REALLY important that a good review is not expected or implied.

Just a heads up…

Cheers

George

@Tumblemoose:
Hi George,

Thanks for the insight. The whole idea and premise of the group is to read and review each others articles with the full intent of giving a genuine submission to StumbleUpon and/or Digg. There is no expectation of reciprocity, only a place where people can read and add valuable content. Hopefully they find an article that will bring value to readers at Digg or StumbleUpon and share it with them.

Thanks everyone for joining! The group is already off and running. I’m glad to have developed this because I wasn’t able to find anything on facebook related to blogging.

…Also, please feel free to let me know if there’s some aspect of it that you think could be enhanced. Still learning about all of the different possibilities and I’m definitely open to new and creative ideas!
