Make Money Blogging Despite Slumping Sales
- November 20th, 2008
Unless you’ve been living in a bubble over the last couple of months you’re well away of the recession that is sweeping across the globe. Everyone from large car companies to small restaurants have been impacted by the slowdown in the economy. Despite the slumping sales data that we’ve been hearing about everyday on the news, there’s still an opportunity to make money blogging and use the recession to your advantage.
As we come into the holiday shopping season, retailers are trying every trick in the book in an effort to spur sales and move product. Every person I talk to is planning to cut back on their gift budget this year and spend less than previous years. With that being said, they still plan to buy gifts for him and her, but just not shell out the dough in large amounts. I can’t say that I blame them! As a blogger you can use this “spend less” mentality to your advantage. It’s important as a blog owner you listen to your readers and tailor topics to their needs. Since many of my blog readers are looking to spend less this year, I wrote an article titled 10 Great Holiday Gifts Under $10! over at FullGlassLiving.
After you check out the example article above, you can see that I choose a wide variety of gifts from a wide variety of merchants. Hopefully my readers will appreciate these gift ideas, which should fit into most budgets this holiday season. If any of my blog fans decide to swing over and purchase my suggestions then I’ll make an affiliate sale and earn some nice income. This is just one example of ways to capitalize on the current state of our economy and spin some negative news into positive growth for your blog. If you have any other examples of finding ways to make money blogging off of the recession news, let me know!
FYI: Anyone that links to this article on their blog (between now and November 27th) will be entered into a contest to win their choice of one of the 10 gifts feature at FullGlassLiving. Just let me know in the comments below that you linked to it. Good Luck!

I love the selection you have provided. I sell online too and must admit that you are doing a phenomenal job! I am getting the same feedback. Budget..budget…We are spending money, but regardless we all want more for our money
Hi Rachel,

Hi Rachel:
Great idea. I wonder how a seasonal website would work? hmmm, I’ll have to toss that idea around for awhile. I’ll be linking to this post…
Thx.
AWESOME IDEA!!!!
Ooops! It is Nov. 3 here. So, I can not enter the contest. However, I have been to the “10 Gifts” article. Since I am a Tech-Lover, I loved the USB-Pen Drive Idea. It looks expensive, gives size (4 GB) of expensive but is cheap!
I liked the pen drive one! A good gift.
Last time, I got an error on hitting Add Comment button. So, don’t mind if you see 2 comments!
Saving people money and consumables are going to be hot topics in the coming months.
I agree with JR. Marketing of consumable products is a big deal and if you get around to it early, you can be in for some big payouts.
Affiliate Marketing Blog’s last blog post..Kontera $25 New Publisher Reward
I am posting here now, after several months ( almost three now ) and I would be interested in how everyone still feels about this as, the economy is still tanking ( even worse than was originally thought ) more people are being laid off from their jobs, and the President is trying to get a stimulus pkg pushed through the Senate with tons of resistance.
My personal feeling is that even we here on the ” Net ” will see a definite decrease in revenue for a good part of this year, at the very least.
